This month's food for thought...

Never forget that the ascendancy of the car was not brought about by makers of horse-drawn carriages. In the recent internet technology revolution, Amazon, Yahoo, Google, AOL, eBay, and many other successful businesses were founded by entrepreneurs who, though lacking in resources, saw and took the opportunity to create new business models that could capitalise on revolutionary technology. Meanwhile most established businesses were the laggards in the rear - all too busy trying to fit the new technology into their existing view of the world and existing business models, held back by the inertia of experience. Despite what they might say (or think), most established businesses react to change as threat rather than opportunity - and the impending sustainability revolution will be no exception.
